999 UK Emergency Services
Submitting 999 Address Information
ICC Networks provides connections in the UK which are able to route 999 (and 112) calls to UK’s Emergency Services, as long as that 999 (or 112) call has been placed from within England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
If you are providing your customers with business telephone connections, you are required by law to submit geographic information for any connection that a customer may try to use to dial 999 in an emergency.
ICC Networks now provides an API for you to quickly submit this information to the UK Emergency Services register, which is centrally maintained.
The information required for registration was clearly defined under the in Ofcom's General Condition 4 which was in turn was derived from the original Article 26 of the European Framework Directive for Electronic Communications. The information requires is detailed below.
You will not be able to register an address that is in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, or outside the UK,
Submission Procedure
Registering Your Own Address to Allow Emergency Dialling
As you are managing your own Active SoftSwitch environment you need to follow the same procedure for your own Company as you will for your customers. Needless to say, doing this for your own company first is a good way to familiarise yourself with the process.
Registering Your Customers Addresses to Allow Emergency Dialling
You should use the ICC Networks 999 API to submit Customer Account and Address details, stored in Porta Billing, to the UK Emergency Services.
The API protocol presented is HTTPS. All the API methods will be executed by a standard GET request of the HTTPS protocol.
The API will first fetch the contact details from the Account, where the Account has the “Lastname”, “Address Line 1” and “Postcode” details available. If any details are missing, the information will be fetched from the Customer details stored in Porta Billing.
